Sialtech goes a step further with TerraIndex-app: ‘TerraIndex-app is the digital bridge between the field and the office’
Waterbed survey between the seagoing vessels at the Maasvlakte. Geotechnical drillings in Amsterdam at the Noord/Zuidlijn to check grout injections. Or environmental soil survey at an industrial laundry in the Swedish city of Enköping. Fieldwork company Sialtech picks up one challenge after another. The most important software to support these projects? “The TerraIndex-app”, according to director Henk Nijmeijers.
In order expand into industry leader in the Netherlands and player at international level strategic focus on quality, safety and sustainability was the defining approach, Nijmeijers explains in a meeting room at the main office in Houten. “Everything starts with a focused vision on the industry. But equally important: with technological developments. Someone who wants to grow, should always continue innovating.
Sonic drilling and automation
To enforce his story, Nijmeijers shows a presentation that perfectly presents the ambition of Sialtech. “The switch to the online TerraIndex-app matches this perfectly”, he says while pointing to the pictures of projects on which sonic drilling machines can be seen. “We want to take steps in the forward direction! And we are obliged to do so in order to preserve our growth spurt. This concerns both drilling technique and automation of information processes.”
He continues:”So if I look at our information process – from project information to fieldworkers, the information we enter in the field to sending data and invoices to clients – I ask myself the question: how can we execute this process as efficient as possible? The new TerraIndex-app makes clever use of this. It saves us time to process information and therefore it saves us money. Next to that: it offers more security”, he states while referring to the cloud functionality.
Bridge of information between the field and the office
“The TerraIndex-app is a reliable bridge of information between the field and the office”, he continues explaining. “All the data fieldworkers enter, is immediately sent to the office. Obviously we rapidly check the data from the field, but after that it can directly be distributed to the client. And that is what it is all about: drilling data should be in the hands of the client as fast as possible.”
Furthermore the company doesn’t take the risk of losing any data during the ‘drilling battle’. “Back in the days there was the possibility of someone performing drillings over an area of a hundred meters, scanning all the bar codes and at the end of the day dropping the handheld in the water. That’s not a risk anymore. And regardless of all the process stories; fieldworkers are simply excited about the user friendliness and the new map functionality. Also very important!”
Standardise fieldwork assignment and transfer!
Past few years the transfer of data from the field to client is transformed into something way more than just the drilling profile and sample data. For quality and security purposes way more data is shared with the client by means of a fieldwork assignment and report. At this moment everyone uses his own forms for this. The VKB, Sialtech being a member, sees a possibility for enhanced quality improvement and standardisation, that aids both the fieldworkers and the consultants. Because also this data transfer is essential for each project. Last few months Nijmeijers, while being the chairman of the department of measuring within the VKB, evaluated the information necessities that should lead to a new standard.
